Permissions Required
When you install and use Drive Explorer Pro, you will be asked to give certain permissions to your Google Account. These permissions are needed so the extension can connect Google Sheets with Google Drive and work properly.
Below is a list of the permissions requested and why they are required:
1. See, edit, create and delete only the specific Google Drive files that you use with this app
- What it means: The extension can only work with files you choose to upload or list, not everything in your Google Drive.
- Why it’s needed: So you can upload files to Drive from Sheets and get file details back into your sheet.
Important note: It does not get access to your entire Google Drive, only the files you work with through the extension.
2. View and manage spreadsheets that this application has been installed in
- What it means: The extension can read and update the sheet you are currently using.
- Why it’s needed: To list file details like file name, size, and links directly into your spreadsheet.
3. Display and run third-party web content in prompts and sidebars inside Google applications
- What it means: The extension shows its panel inside Google Sheets.
- Why it’s needed: To give you an easy interface for uploading and listing files without leaving Google Sheets.
4. Connect to an external service
- What it means: The extension can connect Google Sheets and Google Drive together.
- Why it’s needed: To transfer file information from Drive into your sheet, and vice versa.
5. Allow this application to run when you are not present
- What it means: Some actions can continue in the background even if you are not actively clicking.
- Why it’s needed: For example, uploading a large file or updating the sheet may take a few seconds, and this ensures it finishes even if you switch tabs.
6. See your primary Google Account email address
- What it means: The extension can see your Google email address.
- Why it’s needed: To link the tool to your account and ensure the correct Drive and Sheets are used.
7. See your personal info, including any personal info you’ve made publicly available
- What it means: The extension can read basic profile information like your name.
- Why it’s needed: To confirm your account identity when connecting Google Sheets and Drive.
