Listing Files from Google Drive into Google Sheets

This page explains how to list existing files from Google Drive in Google Sheets using Drive Explorer Pro.

Listing files From Google Drive into Google Sheets

Steps to List Files

Choosing the Default Folder

This helps open that folder by default when you choose to select and list files from Google Drive, so you don’t have to navigate to it every time. This is optional. Even if no default folder is set, you can still navigate to a specific folder and choose files to list in Sheets.

Choosing the Starting Cell for Listing Files in Google Sheets

This setting allows you to choose the starting cell for listing the attributes of the selected files.

You have two choices:

  • Currently Selected Cell: The list will begin from the cell you have clicked in the sheet.
  • Append Below Existing Data: The list will be added below the data already in your sheet.

Selecting Attributes to Display for Each File

This setting allows you to select the attributes you want to list in Google Sheets. You can customize these attributes and reorder them by dragging them up or down.

Options include:

  • Image Preview (You can customize the image preview size using the Image Settings available in the Settings tab)
  • File Name linked to the file URL
  • Direct Download Link
  • File Name (plain text)
  • File URL
  • File ID
  • File Type (Mime Type)
  • File Size (MB)
  • Tick the boxes for the details you want to include.

Saving Your Selected Settings as the Default (Optional)

If you want these same options every time, click Save selected settings as Default.

Listing Files in Google Sheets

  1. Click the blue button Select existing files from Drive and List in Sheets to open the Google Drive file picker. If a default folder is set, it will open by default; otherwise, the root folder of your personal Drive will be shown.

If you have any shared drives, they will also appear as tabs in the file picker as shown in the following image:

  3. The details of the files will appear in your Google Sheet, based on the options you selected.

Example

Then, after clicking the blue button:

  • Its name will appear with a clickable link,
  • And its size will be written in MB in the sheet.
